Canada's Petitclerc claims a
record on her way to winning gold in the 800m.
Canada’s Chantal Petitclerc has smashed her Manchester Games Record to win the gold medal in the Women’s 800m Elite Athlete with a Disability (EAD) T54 Final.
With a time of 1:48.98, Petitclerc took almost four seconds off her record to win her second Commonwealth Games gold medal.
Petitclerc also won this event at the Athens and Sydney Olympics.
Australia’s Eliza Stankovic took the silver medal, recording the time of 1:49.62. Canada’s Diane Roy won the bronze, with a time of 1:53.76.
Stankovic had an early lead in the race, taking the inside lane at the 400m mark, but Petitclerc raced away in the final 100m.
"To race here in front of so many friends and family and an Australian crowd is a dream come true," said Stankovic. "To take home a silver is unbelievable."
Australian’s Christie Dawes and Angela Ballard finished fifth and sixth respectively.
